If you’re considering investing in parking lot paving services, then you may want to know more about the process. Measuring and Estimating are two key preliminary parts of the process. When it comes to measuring and estimating for asphalt paving or seal coating, there’s much to know and consider.
Join us as Marvin of Blacktop Banter and Wis-Coat Asphalt Maintenance discusses these two components.
As Marvin states, you’ll need to calculate length times width to get the total area, although that’ll be different for circles or angles. In this video, Marvin uses a measuring tool to gather measurements for the area, including the circular section of the cul de sac he’s measuring. As Marvin mentions, you’ll want to calculate Pi times the radius of the circular area squared. With both of these measurements collected, you’ll add them both together for the total area of the surface you’re measuring.
Marvin also encounters an angled portion of the surface, called a flair. Measure straight out from where the flair starts to a full 90-degree angle from where the flair ends. Then, measure the width of the flair from that point to where the flair ends. Watch the video above for more information before tackling your parking lot paving.
